What I'm Drinking Right Now

It's a cane sugar Dr Pepper, made with cane sugar, not corn syrup. Got it from a co-worker earlier this week. Got some KFC to build up my thirst.

If you're wondering about the numbers: It comes from the 1920s and 30s: Dr Pepper had some experts do some studies and found that blood sugar tends to lower at 10:30 AM, 2:30 PM, and 4:30 PM, hence their slogan: "Drink a bite to eat at 10, 2, and 4 o' clock."

It's 6:32 over here, and crackin' it open!

...Dang. Not as good as I hoped. Got a weird twang to it, kind of like Splenda. Might have gotten a bad one. Oh well. If it happens next time, I guess that'll mean I just prefer corn syrup.

Let the flaming commence.

UPDATE 6/27/2007: I think this can got overheated in a car or something: Office has a case of regular DP today that was left out in the summer heat for too long, and it tastes exactly like this did.

Regular soda in Canada is made with real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup, and it's SO much better. But Mountain Dew in this country has caffeine in it, so it evens out, IMO.

I don't know about sodas with cane sugar, but I'm a huge fan of Nantucket Nectars, which are juices that use cane sugar. It's soooooooo much better than corn syrup.

I know for sure that Dr. Pepper around here (Guelph, Ontario, Canada) doesn't have that label on the cans, but I don't know what sweetener is used. I shall have to remember to check the next time I buy one.

I like their slogan - I generally find myself craving caffeine and sugar around 4:00 or 4:30, and I often have a snack of some kind around 10:00. 2:00 is close to my usual lunch-time.

WAIT ONE SECOND

There is a non-caffeinated version of Mt. Dew? I thought Mt. Dew was 98% caffeine?

Mountain Dew is nerd-beer. They even make it yellow so your kidneys have one less thing to do.

And yeah, I always figured the Dew was as close to a pure caffeine-sugar mix as you could get over-the-counter and not in a truck stop. During a New Year's Eve party in 8th Grade, I drank twenty cans of the stuff. I've since cut back.

I can't drink it. It's just too sweet. I used to have a thing in college where I would switch back and forth between Mt. Dew in the summer and Coke in the winter. Kinda of like going from a Heffewiesen in the summer to a nice stout in the winter.... or something like that...I think.

Nevermind

Now I know what I want from one of the losers in Canada when my cyborg elves take over the floating continents of... um... whatever the Skeplomacy game's world is called.

Mwa ha ha ha ha!

I can't stand pop (remember, Lincoln, NE USA) or anything sweet for that matter. Give me iced tea, water or beer for refreshment.

And a taco for dessert after my steak.

I have family up in Temple, so we pick up a couple dozen of those special Dr. Peppers whenever we go up there.

The stuff is awesome. I assume you just have a bad tongue. The taste is much smoother, with a much sweeter aftertaste. When I first started drinking it I may have thought it tasted a little odd, but after a few cans normal Dr. Pepper tastes like crap.

Of course, it's still better crap than all the other coke.
