WILD THREAD! (Experimental Prototype)

Thought I'd try a little experiment: Post anything you like in the comments. Unleash any really nasty trollishness you may have bottled up. I won't moderate comments all that much*... and I may not even bother reading all that much.

Just one important note: Don't expect any of the quotes to be seriously taken as evidence for some ad hominem later. This is intended as a place for people to vent about whatever, and will likely involve people saying things they don't honestly mean.

*Comment moderation I will limit myself to: Killing overtly commercial spam, killing duplicate posts, closing the thread if things get entirely too nasty in unprecedented ways, deleting or hiding the thread if someone is caught using quotes as evidence of something (since anything quoted here is inherently shoddy evidence). That goes for skeptics, especially: Don't quote any fundies/woos/whatever here. Anyone can send me an email to my gmail address (should be easy to guess) with a link to any such offense.

I sometimes get the sense that your new Doggerel posts are just going over ground you've already covered.

Ya hoser.

Yeah, sometimes the distinctions are subtle, at least in my mind.

Besides, if you want to see me cover something new, drop something in the suggestion box, you unconstructive doo-doo-head! ;)

I want someone to record a version of the Meow Mix theme song, but with the word "woo" instead of "meow."

I mean, they're trying to cram "meow" into one syllable as it is. Woo fits better.

I'm disturbingly reminded of Scott Adams by your "Distinctions are subtle" comment. I agree, by and large, the Doggerel series has become a whole lot of "None of that affects my arguments' truth value in any way." While all valid, they were getting repetetive for a while.

There, my inner troll has unleashed all the fury it can muster at this site.
What the hell, might as well go all out:
CONVERT NOW OR DIE!!! Eris is the only true path to enlightenment, and spiritual death the only death that matters! Open your pinela gland, find your Slack, and be free once more!
'k, that's all I've got.

Yeah, I was trying to think of an extra jab to make when I typed that, but I couldn't, so I just left it as is. Also kind of hard without examples being given.

As for the mass of subject change doggerels, well, that's what a very large pile of fallacies ultimately are: red herrings. And we all know the woos love their fallacies.

Hey Bronze Dog,

I know you're a Final Fantasy fan, so if you haven't heard already, FF6 is out for Gameboy Advance. Also, did you pick up FF3 for Nintendo DS? It's been out since November.

Lately, I've been addicted to Elite Beat Agents for the DS. It's a great little rhythm music game. When I showed it to a friend, she described as "Dance Dance Revolution for your hand." Which is pretty accurate.

Sorry for the OT randomness, but what better place to ramble on about video games than in a wild thread?

Keep it up with the skeptical blogging. The Doggerel posts are great.

Right now, I've got Final Fantasy Anthology (5 & 6), and I did get FF3 recently. Currently got 1, 2, and 3 in my DS, thanks to the extra hole and Dawn of Souls.

There anything in the Advance version of 6 that didn't make it into Anthology?

I'm raising my geek hand.

I've just started in on Vanguard a new MMORPG. And yes its as geeky and dorky as you've heard.

But I love it.

I may have to do that one of these days if I get some spare time

Re: FFVIa, apparently it's a new translation. They kept in some of the popular old lines, but generally cleaned it up. I'm sure there are some new memes in there - Dawn of Souls has a Trogdor reference, after all, and IV has a line about "you and your goons wrecking my airships something awful"...

Of course, I'm still working my way through IVa, so don't have any first-hand experience of the new one.

Apparently FF6 Advance has a new dungeon to explore, and new Espers to get for summoning. Also the updated translation already mentioned by msoya. I had FF Anthology on PS1 a few years ago, but was frustrated with the 2 second load times every time I opened the menu screen. FF6 Advance has no load times and I can carry it with me on business trips.

The portability factor more than the new content was my justification for getting it, since I have less and less time to sit in front of the TV and play console games than I did when I was younger. I can take the DS with me and play whenever I have a free moment or two.

I want psychics. I want dowsing. I want woo woo, please deliver.

BD, instead of focusing on all the negative things that all the woos spout off, how about doing a series on examples of good arguments that ultimately led to advances or new discoveries.

I did some of that back in August 2006. You'll need a very high resolution monitor and an electron tunneling microscope.

Hey, there's some perfect fodder for Doggerel posts over at Skeptico's. He's arguing against the classic "I was bored anyway/None of this really matters/I'm taking my ball and going home" fallacy. Argumentum ad playgroundium.

Also, just glancing at the Doggerel index comments, did you ever do a "waste of time" post? Does it just have another name, or am I totally blind and oblivious?

Tom Foss said...

Derp. I just finished reading the comments on that post. Now I feels teh 5tup1d.

Rev. BigDumbChimp said...

Whoa. That's actually a pretty good take down at Skeptico's thread Tom. Thanks for the link.

Ah, Elite Beat Agents... Whoever designed the beat patterns for "Jumpin' Jack Flash" should be skinned alive. Good song selection, though; nothing with Earth, Wind and Fire's "September" can ever be bad.

Got a crown put in yesterday. I don't think I'll ever allow them to give me nitrous oxide again - that full-body tingle gives me panic attacks.
