YouTube Plug

I'm going to plug shanedk's YouTube Channel. He's got some good stuff, and recently posted an HD version of a video where Kent Hovind demonstrates his failure to understand the concept of "food." Embedded below the fold, but you might want to stop by the proper URL to give ratings.

Oh man, he missed a point on population growth; in addition to the issue of available resources, there's also predation and disease. For predation, well, homo sapiens has been its own worst enemy for several thousand years, but there's still man eating lions and tigers in a few places. Disease has only stopped being a major controller of population in the last century, but it's still significant in some places, and could easily make a comeback, say with a newly discovered disease or if the bird flu manages to acquire the means to pass from person to person.

I also got the impression from the video that creationists don't understand how different factors interact. Then again, I suppose that's not exactly news.

It's one of the classic symptoms of woo-ism of all sorts - the inability to appreciate multiple interacting factors, along with an inability to deal with nuance or graduation. Black and white, all or nothing. And they say we're the reductive thinkers...

Yes, that is the unspoken feature of the hollistic approach:

"My woo works for everything, therefore there is only one explanation for anything: my woo"
