So, Does This Make It Official?

Blake's Law has a Wikipedia page.

Here's the original source.

As far as I'm concerned it does. Just look at the vitriol and utter lack of comprehension it's already spawned.

You have just confirmed that Wickipedia is not a valid source of information since any Jehu can post an article.

Thanks for the info.

1. It's a joke. I thought it was obvious, especially since we've laughed at Egnor for using wikipedia as a "scientific" source for some semantics games of his.

2. This post is mostly about spreading the meme and hoping it gets placed alongside Godwin's 'law' and people get called immature and childish for invoking the absurd "atheist fundamentalist", just like has been going on for illegitimate Nazi analogies.

3. What's a Jehu?

Blake Stacey said...

Jehu was the one who commanded Jezebel to be thrown from a window and then packed all the worshipers of Baal into a single building and had them all slaughtered, wasn't he?

I didn't know he edited Wikipedia. You learn something every day!

Unsurprisingly, the article has been proposed for deletion as a "non-notable neologism." But don't worry, once it's deleted we can accuse everyone who uses the term "atheist fundamentalist" of participating in Stalinesque censorship.

I'm not surprised either. We just need to spread it around until it's a household name like Godwin's. Then it'll stay/come back.

You mean like Atheist Fundamentalist?

Considering the pure PR focus of woos, I imagine Doggerel #71 will remain in their vocabulary for centuries to come. Hopefully, Blake's Law will make the use of it a sign for everyone to laugh derisively when someone brings up the self-contradicting phrase.

Looks like Blake's Law gets to stay... as a subsection of the Pharyngula entry.

/me shrugs

It's still official. ;)

Yes anything in Wickipedia is official, just like the comic books.

Oh, what's that? *sniff sniff* I think it's... *sniff sniff* ...why yes, it's someone being evasive!

I think part of the reason the term "Athiest Fundamentalist" came about is because the definition of fundamentalist has come to include any expression of absolutism, as opposed to a clinging to the fundamentals of a belief system.

It's like how arguments about about Linux distributions are called "religious arguments" even though nobody literally worships at the Temple of Debian.

Considering the fact that almost every popular magazine and journal has made some kind of reference to Fundamental Atheists, and considering the fact the only people who believe that Hitler was not an atheist are athesis then I do not see much hope for your attempts to make this truth an immature allegation.

American Idol is not a model of epistemology!

Let me guess how your world works:

Text 314 to your number if pi is a transcendental number.

Text 320 if pi equals 3.20.

Text 110 if you think torture is not immoral.

Text 735 if you think torture is immoral.

Sorry, but lots of people wanting things to be true doesn't make 'em that way. Get back to your homeopathic aromatherapy incense and don't return until you believe that there's objective truth out there.

I have no reason to do anything more than to laugh derisively at nihilist, solipsists like you who choose to remain in relativism-land.

Yes, only atheists think Hitler wasn't an atheist. Why, just check out this godless speech Hitler made in Munich back in '22:
"My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God's truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders. How terrific was His fight for the world against the Jewish poison. To-day, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact that it was for this that He had to shed His blood upon the Cross. As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice... And if there is anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly it is the distress that daily grows. For as a Christian I have also a duty to my own people."

And since Hitler didn't think he was an atheist, then by your logic, he must have been an atheist!

Athesis? Only people who believe that Hitler wasn't an atheist don't believe in research papers?

Well, I believe in research papers. Tom just gave you a quote about what Hitler himself said, and there are pictures that show Hitler was friendly with the Catholic church.

I think anon is just upset that atheists are now receiving some media attention. Especially since our arguments have a bigger ring of truth.

Like I said, the only people that believed that Hitler was not an atheists are atheists.

I like the media attention that atheists get. Especially when Bill O' Reilly made Dawkins look like the dweeb that he is.

Yes, let them debate on national television, so that everyone may know how complete losers they are. Of course we all know that that's not there style.

Either way, the atheist always comes out losing.

Stop crying. Get used to it. You have been a loser since the beginning of time.

Bronze Dog said...

What, you think Dawkins lost and I'm sad? Funny. Show me some quotes if you're not too cowardly, like you have been in other threads here. But you're just going to put your cowardice on pubic display and cry victory.

First off, O'Reilly was the one sweating.

Second, I'm quite happy. You're the one who spends his life screaming and seek only to have others join in your misery.

Go cry, emo kid.

Third, what's so sacred about the Teen Scream verbal debate? We don't live in the pagan sophist era when popularity would maaaaagically alter reality. You'll still be a loser no matter how much you cut up the dictionary or win popularity contests.

Character beats personality.

Like I said, the only people that believed that Hitler was not an atheists are atheists.

We really need to start teaching proper debate in high school. Your response to actual points to the contrary amounted to only a repetition of your point with zero rebuttal, and zero additional points in your favor. By the standards of debate, you've just forfeited.

List of Hitler quotes - he was quite the vocal Catholic

Most of these are lifted straight out of the Mein Kampf. No quote mining needed - they speak for themselves.

Bill O'Reilly creamed him on national television.

Like always, the atheist comes out being the proud loser.

Bronze Dog said...

And, yet, you can't cite a single victorious argument made by O'Reilly.
