So, Should I Move?

Got to thinking about moving my blog again, mostly because I've so radically changed the place since Ryan's original incarnation. It'd probably be easier for people to find "thebronzeblog.com" or something.

The trick is that I'm not sure how to do it easily. I'd like to duplicate the posts at whatever new place without going through the sheer number of individual posts, keep this place up, at least for a while, and maybe even find some way to get people redirected from the posts here to the new counterpart, to give people time to update bookmarks, links, etcetera.

So, any general recommendations from those more experienced at the matter?

I recommend the WordPress platform - it's free (GNU GPL), it's handy and there are lots of themes/skins and plug-ins for it. AFAIK, Blogger allows you to export all your posts and comments to a file, which you can import to WordPress.

I can recommend WordPress as well, except for the fact that my comments bizarrely stopped working a while ago and I can't figure out why.

I'm pretty sure that's just me, though.

For hosting, I use DreamHost. I've been satisfied with what I get for the cost, although you can easily find a lot of people who aren't. They're cheap and do everything I need (which isn't much), though, so I'm more inclined to cut them slack.

The main problem is that they do experience downtime once in a while. The summer seems to have gone pretty poorly for them, but I wasn't having any trouble in the first half of the year.

I too recommend Wordpress, mainly because it made moving from blogger very easy for me and quickly transfered my posts to the new blog.

I not formally recommending a platform, because I haven't played with anything other than Blogger enough to comment. I will note that you can still use Blogger for your platform even with your own domain name and host if you don't want to change platform.

I do think it would be a good idea to move to TheBronzeBlog.com or something. I always forget what this one is, and the domain name has absolutely nothing to do with the blog anymore.

I've been using Wordpress on my own domain for over a year now, and I've been tickled with it. It was incredibly easy to port my blogger stuff over to Wordpress, and I've found Wordpress to be very easy to work with. Lots of flexibility, and so far, no major problems. I use Bluehost, $100 a year, with no problems.

Ditto the WP thing.

The software rocks, the censorship thing at WP.com not so much (which obviously would not be an issue if you're getting hosted elsewhere).
