Spore

I got it (essentially unregistered, since it's my brother's copy, so he's the only one online). It's fun. No, I don't think it has anything resembling evolution. I imagine that's an acceptable break from reality, because players have to be involved, and evolution is a hands off process.

It's a game, and it's fun.

Yes it is.

How's the hurricane so far? The news tonight made it look pretty miserable.

We got a lot of footage on the news tonight from Galveston and it looked pretty bad. Hope your backyard is not too bad.

5:00 AM: Just raining really hard right now. Nothing beyond the typical storm, yet. Suppose to get at its worst on Saturday, here.

Current spot in Spore: City work. I've been playing my frogs friendly, but I'm up against a military foe. Probably going to start city level over again, now that I know more about what I should be doing.

I just hit the tribe phase and haven't had a chance to play since it started. My guys are red in tooth and claw. I only made one ally in the creature stage, and that was just to see what it was like. I drove about 40 or so species extinct, though. Woe betide those that fall between us and our desires.

My guys are based somewhat on Omega Weapon from Final Fantasy VIII. At least, what I remember of him.

I haven't played the game yet, but it would be interesting if you played the selection process...like, you could make changes to the environment, but you wouldn't have control over how (or if) the inhabitants adapted.

The Pharangula guy is all in a tizzy about how inaccurate it is (and I love that guy). I'd be right there with him if the advertisements were trying to insinuiate this is actual evolution, but as near as I can tell they're having fun with the inaccuracies ("creatialutionism"), and so I'm more interested in it as a work of fun fantasy.

Fear me, for I have gotten to Space! (and then I started over because Easy was too easy.) My current critters are a bunch of herbivores that are having trouble because I got unlucky in the lottery; about half the species I encounter can't be socialized with. I also have a bunch of carnivores with EVERY SINGLE PART! Yay!

I just hit space, too. It's so much more complex than the other stages, so far.

We're getting hit with leftover hurricane here in Indiana. How's your place, BD?

Now I have performed a feat you may or may not be able to match!
I beat Creature without ever evolving except at the very beginning. (What's up with not letting me have all my starting Creature parts when I leave Cell stage? Always have to update as soon as I hit Creature.) The fact that my critter had a proboscis piercing for a chieftain's staff when I went to Tribal was kinda weird.
